Yep - similar feelings. Always thought I was ready but really deep down I wasn't. Always some issue with some guy - parents got fed up with it.
It always makes me laugh how some guys think that we should open up straight away and automatically. If you open up your whole life to every single random guy you meet, then what makes it special with the one you finally settle down with?
I think my parents and friends sort of became fed up with me as well. It is difficult to open up from the beginning. That's why I appreciate guys who take their time, and also ask the right questions. Not just talk aimlessly.
